Why Guatemala?
It’s simple. The beauty.
The beauty of the people, textiles, food, mountains, volcanos, lakes, cobblestone streets. The heart of the country. I was there October 2024 and I cannot wait to take you back with me!
Imagine This…
You’re sipping fresh, rich Guatemalan coffee as the morning unfolds around you. Bright colors, warm air, street sounds, laughter, and the kind of energy that makes you feel instantly alive. That’s Guatemala.
You’re surrounded by women who feel like instant friends. The kind of women who lift you up, laugh with you, and make you feel safe to be your whole self. That’s who my trips attract.
You feel free. You feel relaxed. You’re swapping stories, snapping photos, trying new foods, and getting lost (in the fun way).
This isn’t just a vacation sugar plum. It’s a week designed to reconnect you with the beauty of the world and reconnect you to yourself, the version that finally said yes!

Today you’ll land in Guatemala City Airport (GUA) and get picked up to make your way to the hotel 10 minutes away.
Depending on when you arrive, you can grab lunch at the hotel restaurant, use the pool, or take a nap!
At 2pm, our whole group will start off on a tour of the different neighborhoods of Guatemala City.
We will be led by a Guatemalan woman who will show us the sites and sounds of the city both by foot as well as through the window of our van. Expect the tour to show you history, architecture, and markets, all while hearing stories and trying local snacks and fruit!
Afterwards, we’ll share a delicious Guatemalan welcome dinner where we will set our intention for the week, get to know each other, and get ready for the magic ahead.

Today, sleep in, enjoy breakfast, and then we will drive from Guatemala City to the stunning Lake Atitlan (approx. 3.5 hours).
The late afternoon/evening we will explore the small village of Santa Catarina, known to still retain it’s authentic nature with murals painted on the side of the blue houses! Well visit a small museum and church, and a delicious local coffee shop.
Upon return to the hotel you can relax in the thermal bath and pool or continue exploring the local villages.

Today you’ll meet Anita, one of the most inspiring women you’ll encounter in Guatemala. She’ll share her powerful story of building a cooking school and women’s weaving cooperative that now supports single mothers in her community.
Together, we’ll wander through the bustling local market, tasting, sampling, and gathering ingredients before heading back to her home for an interactive cooking class filled with laughter, learning, and incredible flavors. After enjoying the feast you helped create, you’re invited to visit her weaving cooperative to see firsthand how her initiative uplifts women and preserves tradition.
After saying goodbye to Anita in San Pedro, we’ll hop on a lancha (boat) to the vibrant village of San Juan, known for its creativity, color, and deep-rooted women’s entrepreneurship.
We will take a short climb up to the Mirador, a lookout point over the whole lake. Stunning! Then we will visit an array of incredible women-owned businesses— from traditional weaving collectives to chocolate makers, leather goods artisans, and honey bee keepers. This is an active, fun and adventurous way to connect with the culture, tradition and unique landscapes in an authentic way. After the tour we will enjoy lunch together!

Meet your trip host, Alyssa
As a certified travel coach for women, I am always asked, “What if I’m lonely or bored or scared on my solo trip?” Or, “I don’t know how to solo travel!”
Women saw me traveling solo and wanted to know how I did it. They wanted to stop waiting for their friend circles or partner to say yes, their kids to get older, or the right time—and instead feel free to take off by themselves but had so many doubts and fears about going alone.
That’s where the birth of my group trips started.Solo, but not alone!
My favorite thing about leading group trips is seeing women’s faces light up as they gain confidence and feel connected to the places and people they meet.
All without lifting a finger. I do it all and you get to show up and enjoy the ride.
*This is my 3rd time going to Guatemala and I love it each and every time!
This Trip Is For You If…
✔ You are kind, thoughtful, self-aware, and drama free.
✔ You are eager to learn about a different culture, the locals, and want to take care of the land. We’re guests, not consumers.
✔ You understand that things don’t operate in Guatemala as they do back home, so you’re okay going with the flow if need be.
✔ You celebrate differences such as backgrounds, beliefs, personalities, or ages.
✔ You want to support other women and are open to other women supporting you if you need it!
✔ You are ready to say yes to the moment. You go to Guatemala for more than just a trip. You go for your heart to burst open and feel a deep sense of connection to others. Be prepared to be transformed.
✔You like to laugh and have fun. Life is too short to be serious all the time!
Hear From Past Travelers:

Solo Girl Wanders did an amazing job curating such a memorable experience for us.” —Melinda, Morocco Group Trip 2025
“Having Alyssa plan the trip cut out hours of research and decision making and it was nice to be a follower and not a leader. It was nice to give up that responsibility!”—Katie, Europe Group Trip 2024

Yes! I recommend “cancel for any reason” insurance, but at a minimum you must purchase medical coverage and post-departure coverage.
Buy insurance within 10-14 days of your first trip payment for maximum coverage options since some insurance won’t cover pre-existing conditions if you wait.
I recommend, and am proud to partner with Wanderwell, a Certified B Corporation travel insurance provider that makes it as simple as possible. They don’t overwhelm you with options, offering just a few modern, benefit-packed trip protection plans that can cover the most common travel perils related to trip cancellation, trip interruption, trip delay, travel Medical Expenses, baggage & personal effects, Emergency Medical Evacuation, and more.
At least one percent of their revenue from this purchase will be donated to the Planet Impact Fund through 1% for the Planet network.

Any ages!
Most of the women who travel with me are between 30 and 55 years old but if you have an open heart and adventurous spirit, age is just a number!
*Note, you must be at least 18 years of age.

Everyone will get a packing list so don’t worry! We will also have a pre-trip call and WhatsApp group chat to help you along the way.
If you want to book a private 1:1 call with Alyssa, reach out to her at hello@sologirlwanders.com for pricing.

Because of the small, intimate nature of this trip, I will not be able to offer any refunds. I have to pay the vendors in Guatemala and many of them have no refund policies as well. Please purchase trip insurance with “cancel for any reason” if you’re not sure! DM me if you need help with this.
-
Most days you will have a few hours to yourself. Feel free to grab another woman on the trip to do something, or practice your confidence and go solo! I will give you a map with all of the options.
For example, at Lake Atitlan you can hang out at the pool or hot thermal tub of our hotel, enjoy the view, read, or journal. You could go to the nature preserve and zipline. You could rent a paddleboard or kayaks, or explore other villages around the lake.
In Antigua, you can take a jade jewelry making class, attend a pottery workshop, work with a woman weaver to make something special, go shopping, or wander the cafes in the search for the best cup of coffee.
I got you!
-
5 nights = single room
3 nights = shared double rooms.
When we are at the lake, in order to keep costs down and still stay at a nice hotel, you and another woman on the trip will share a room and bathroom. Each room will have 2 beds with plenty of space.
To make this situation super comfortable, we will have 1 pre-trip call to meet all the women on the trip plus you will fill out a form about sleeping preferences (sound machine vs silence, stay up late vs get to bed early, etc). This is intended to match you with a person that will be the best fit for your sleep habits.
If you are interested in booking your own room for those 3 nights, please let me know and I can get you updated availability and pricing.
-
Yes! You have an option to make a deposit and then payments along the way. You will see all the details on the payment option page.
